Salvamont rescuers are warning drivers and tourists after snow began falling on Thursday evening on the Transfăgărășan and in Poiana Brașov, at altitudes above 1,600 meters. Visibility is reduced, and weather conditions can change rapidly.
Salvamont Argeș recommends extra caution for those traveling along the Transfăgărășan, as well as for tourists planning to head onto mountain trails. Drivers are advised to keep a safe distance between vehicles, avoid sudden maneuvers, and ensure their cars are properly equipped for winter conditions. They must also follow road signs and any traffic restrictions that may be imposed.
In Poiana Brașov, a layer of snow several centimeters thick has already accumulated. Tourists are urged to check the forecast, road conditions, and official updates before setting out, wear suitable equipment, and avoid exposed trails.
Salvamont rescuers stress that mountain weather can deteriorate rapidly and recommend calling 112 or the National Salvamont Dispatch Center at 0725 826 668 in an emergency.
