CNAIR is closing the Transfăgărășan due to snowfall, fog and low temperatures

CNAIR will close traffic on a section of the Transfăgărășan, DN 7C, on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, starting at 6:00 p.m., due to adverse weather conditions. The measure applies to the section between Piscul Negru, Argeș County, and Bâlea Cascadă, Sibiu County, between kilometer markers 108+000 and 130+800.

Snowfall, fog and low temperatures are forecast in the mountain section. CNAIR warns that, at high altitudes, weather conditions can change rapidly, and unpredictable phenomena may endanger drivers’ safety.

The reopening of the road will depend on weather developments and verification of its serviceability and safety conditions. The authorities may decide either to temporarily reopen the section or to keep it closed throughout the winter.

The national road divisions in Sibiu and Pitești will install the necessary signs to mark the closed section. Drivers can obtain information about the condition of national roads and motorways from the CNAIR Dispatch Center at 021/9360 or on the company’s website, in the “Dispatch Center – National Road Status” section.
