Equipment operated by the Pitești National Roads Division is working Friday morning to clear snow from DN 7C – Transfăgărășan after snowfall at altitudes above 1,600 meters. Crews are using vehicles fitted with plows and spreading anti-skid material, according to the Bucharest Regional Directorate of Roads and Bridges.
Salvamont Argeș announced that snowfall began Thursday evening and visibility is reduced. Mountain rescuers are advising both drivers and tourists to exercise caution, as weather conditions can change rapidly at high altitudes.
Drivers are advised to reduce their speed, adjust their travel to road conditions and check that their vehicles are properly equipped for winter conditions. Tourists are urged to avoid exposed routes and travel in areas with reduced visibility.
The Transfăgărășan is closed every cold season on the section between Piscu Negru, Argeș County, and Bâlea Cascadă, Sibiu County, because of snow, avalanches and extreme weather phenomena. This year, the road was reopened to traffic on June 12.
