Brașov Regional Directorate of Roads and Bridges announces first snowfall on the Transfăgărășan / Traffic is not affected

The first snowfall of this cold season was recorded on the Transfăgărășan, in the Bâlea Lac area, on Monday night into Tuesday, representatives of the Brașov Regional Directorate of Roads and Bridges announced. The layer of snow is thin, and road traffic is not affected.

Snow-clearing equipment did not need to be deployed, but the authorities are advising drivers to check traffic conditions before setting out. The recommendation comes as temperatures are expected to fall below zero, especially at night, which may favor the formation of black ice.

On Tuesday morning, temperatures at Bâlea Lac stood at -2 degrees Celsius. Last year, the first snowfall on the Transfăgărășan was recorded at the beginning of October.

Meteorologists are forecasting a significant drop in maximum temperatures this week, by 8-12 degrees Celsius compared with the levels recorded during the previous weekend. Rain showers, hail in depressions, and wind gusts of 60-70 km/h are forecast in the Southern Carpathians and the Curvature Carpathians.
