Heavy snowfall on the Transfăgărășan. Road workers intervened with machinery and salt

Heavy snowfall affected traffic on the Transfăgărășan on Wednesday morning, particularly in the alpine area around Bâlea Lake. The Brașov Regional Directorate of Roads and Bridges intervened to clear the roadway, as the road was covered with snow and traffic was moving under winter conditions.

Road crews used two pieces of equipment and spread more than five tonnes of salt to keep the road passable. DRDP Brașov announced that the intervention was necessary because of the intensifying snowfall, while difficult weather conditions are also forecast for the coming days.

Authorities recommend that drivers planning to travel along the Transfăgărășan check the road conditions and traffic situation beforehand. Motorists are advised not to set off if their vehicles are not properly equipped for travel in winter conditions.

It also snowed in the area the previous day, but no intervention by road-maintenance equipment was needed at that time. The most difficult situation is being recorded in the alpine sector, where low temperatures and precipitation can quickly affect the roadway.
