The Dacian fortress Sarmizegetusa Regia, located in the Retezat Mountains, will be temporarily closed to the public from May 4 to June 30, according to an announcement from the Hunedoara County Council (CJ). The restrictions are necessary to allow for conservation and restoration work on the site, part of the project 'Conservation, restoration, and enhancement of the archaeological site Sarmizegetusa Regia - Terrace X'. The work involves the transport of materials such as clay, stone, and gravel, as well as the recovery of some architectural elements. Public access will be restricted from Monday to Friday, but the site will remain open for visits on Saturdays and Sundays. The project, valued at 11.3 million lei, aims to restore the large andesite temple and strengthen Terrace X. CJ Hunedoara has managed the site since 2013, and it has been included on the UNESCO list of monuments since 2019.
