CNAIR to close the Transfăgărășan on September 5 for the 2026 Transfier triathlon

The Transfăgărășan will be closed to traffic for 11 hours on Saturday, September 5, 2026, for the 2026 Transfier triathlon. The restriction will be in effect from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the DN 7C section between kilometer 62+100, at Vidraru Dam, and kilometer 116+808, at Bâlea Lake. The measure was announced by the National Road Infrastructure Management Company and is necessary for the swimming, cycling and running events to take place. The traffic closure will be implemented by the organizer, with the support of Road Police units. CNAIR advises drivers to exercise caution and follow the temporary road signage. The restriction affects one of Romania’s busiest mountain tourist routes, so road users are advised to plan alternative routes in advance. Approximately 300 athletes from 11 countries are expected to take part in the 11th edition of Transfier. The competition includes swimming in Lake Vidraru, cycling on the Transfăgărășan and running in the Vidraru Dam area, with the course becoming a landmark for the triathlon community.
