Bogdan Ivan, the Minister of Energy, reaffirmed that Romanians pay the highest energy prices in the European Union, highlighting the need for measures to alleviate the energy difficulties of households. In a Facebook post, he mentioned that the average energy price in Bucharest is 27.5 euro cents/kWh, exceeding the EU average of 25.4 euro cents/kWh. The situation is even more alarming when compared to the purchasing power of Romanians. Ivan also highlighted that, in the first quarter of 2025, Romania had an average wholesale price of 148.3 € /MWh, well above the European average of 100 € /MWh and higher than in Poland and the Czech Republic. Ivan emphasized that it is essential to recognize this problem and announced that work is underway on measures to reduce the pressure on households and to ensure a fair and competitive energy market.
