The former social-democrat minister Bogdan Ivan signaled on Tuesday an alarming increase in the price of diesel, noting that at a gas station the price rose from 9.99 lei to 10.14 lei in just a few hours. Ivan emphasized that fuel prices are constantly rising, sometimes even from one hour to the next, and called on Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to take immediate measures.
He requested the Ministry of Finance, ANAF, and the Competition Council to investigate how these prices are set, to determine whether the increases are economically justified or speculative. Ivan mentioned the recent vote in Parliament to reduce the excise duty on fuels by 68 bani, emphasizing that despite this measure, prices continue to rise. He called for quick and effective actions from the authorities to protect citizens from these aggressive increases.
"Diesel prices have gone crazy. They are rising from day to day and, in some cases, even from one hour to the next, at the same gas station. At this rate, any measure taken to protect Romanians risks being canceled out by successive price hikes, and the bill ends up, once again, in the pockets of the people. We cannot accept that gas stations can raise prices at will, while state institutions watch from the sidelines. There is a need for controls, explanations, and quick decisions," wrote Bogdan Ivan in a Facebook post.
