Romania ranks among the top in the EU for corruption and serious crimes, according to the Eurojust report.

Romania is among the EU member states with the most serious issues related to corruption, human trafficking, and environmental crimes, according to the report of the Agency for Cooperation in Criminal Justice Matters for 2025.

In the field of corruption, 82 new cases of high-level corruption have been recorded, with Romania having the most cases, alongside France. In terms of human trafficking, Romania has opened the largest number of cases for sexual exploitation and forced labor, followed by Italy and Hungary.

Regarding environmental crimes, Romania has initiated 68 investigations related to pollution and deforestation, ranking among the top alongside Italy and Slovenia. In total, Romanian judges have opened 217 new cases, engaging in 276 international investigations. Additionally, the total volume of organized crime cases has increased by nearly 60% from 2020 to 2025, highlighting the expansion of criminal networks.
