The European Commission published on Friday the annual report on the rule of law for the 27 member states, criticizing the judicial system in Romania, the dissolution of the Bolojan Committee by the High Court of Cassation and Justice and the insufficient progress in combating corruption.

It also mentions that some judges feel unjustified pressure, and judges have been recused for the intention to refer cases to European courts. Although progress has been made in appointing high-ranking prosecutors and in the digitization of the judicial system, problems persist, including in investigating corruption offenses.

The report recommends that Romania continue evaluating the Justice Laws, improve the independence of prosecutors, and ensure efficiency in combating corruption. It also emphasizes the need to address the use of emergency ordinances and to complete the accreditation process for National Institutions for Human Rights.
