The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, declared on Wednesday, at the end of the Business Forum of the Three Seas Initiative, that Romania maintains its position regarding a possible unification with the Republic of Moldova, emphasizing that no changes have been recorded in this regard.
Responding to questions regarding the statements of the Moldovan president, Maia Sandu, who suggested unification as a way to accelerate accession to the European Union, Dan reminded that there is a political framework established since 2018, when the Romanian Parliament unanimously voted to support unification, in the event that Moldovan citizens desire it.
He emphasized that the final decision belongs to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, and Romania will respect any decision made by them. Additionally, the president stated that Romania is prepared to respond favorably to such a scenario, in the event that there is a majority support from the Moldovan population.
