Romanians lead in using TikTok for news about current events, with 46% of users, and have a higher consumption of social media compared to the EU average.

According to a Eurobarometer survey, Romania ranks first in the European Union regarding the use of TikTok as a source of information, with 46% of internet users using the platform to stay informed about current events. Additionally, 76% of Romanians use social media for news, compared to 58% of the European average. Although television remains an important source, with 72% of Romanians considering it the main one, only 15% of young people rely on TV for news.


Romania has seen a significant increase in the importance of social media, with 34% of respondents stating that digital platforms have become more important in the past year. Furthermore, 47% of Romanian users follow influencers, and 48% prefer short videos for information. However, 55% of Romanians feel exposed to misinformation, and 61% trust their ability to recognize it.
