Liberal MEP Rareș Bogdan called for Ursula von der Leyen to be removed as president of the European Commission, saying that keeping her at the helm of the institution could heighten tensions in Europe. He made the statement on Tuesday on the „Ai Aflat!” program, hosted by Ionuț Cristache on Gândul.
Rareș Bogdan argued that von der Leyen is responsible for some of the European Union’s economic problems and criticized the policies associated with the Green Deal, which he said have affected European and Romanian industry. In his view, a diplomatic and managerial solution should be identified through which the president of the European Commission would step aside.
The MEP listed the political groups supporting Ursula von der Leyen: the EPP, the group to which he belongs, the Socialists and Democrats in S&D, Renew, and the Greens. He specified that these include the European political formations to which PSD and USR belong.
On the same program, Rareș Bogdan said that French President Emmanuel Macron is being mentioned in Brussels as a possible successor to Ursula von der Leyen. He stressed, however, that the information is, for now, only a rumor and does not represent an official proposal.
