PNL MEP Rareș Bogdan warns that the European Union risks entering a period of economic and institutional decline, amid public debt, budget deficits, and a falling standard of living. In a Facebook post, he argues that economic pressures could fuel political radicalization and a loss of citizens’ trust.
Rareș Bogdan states that Europe is not necessarily heading toward a financial collapse similar to that of 2008, but rather toward a slow deterioration, affecting public services, purchasing power, and political stability. He points to rising financing costs for countries such as Germany, France, Italy, and Spain, as well as the difficulties of reducing deficits.
The MEP criticizes European policies regarding the green transition, migration, and protecting industry from global competition, particularly from China. He argues that the pandemic, the energy crisis, investments in defense, and public spending have amplified budgetary vulnerabilities.
In Romania’s case, Rareș Bogdan identifies domestic gas production and the Neptun Deep project as strategic advantages. He calls for the protection of European industry, investment in defense, and the strengthening of the relationship between the European Union and the United States.
