On Saturday, District 5 City Hall sent a message marking one year since the explosion at a block of flats on Calea Rahovei, a tragedy in which four people died and another 15 were injured. The institution announced that the local authorities relocated and accommodated the survivors, then provided the affected families with emergency aid worth more than six million lei.

One year after the incident, the classrooms of the „Dimitrie Bolintineanu” Theoretical High School have been refurbished, but classes have not resumed in the affected building. The City Hall maintains that the safety restrictions imposed by the authorities still do not allow the students to return, and they are studying according to a reduced schedule.

The explosion on October 17, 2025, destroyed or rendered unusable 54 apartments and damaged 36 cars. Among the victims was also a pregnant woman. The investigation focuses on the possibility of a buildup of gas originating from a cracked underground pipeline. In May 2026, four individuals and three companies were under investigation, while 176 individuals and legal entities had filed civil claims.
