Bucharest City Hall announces that work to make the building in the Rahova neighborhood safe, which was affected by last October’s explosion, will resume on Monday, following the completion of the technical assessments and the issuance of the order to restart work at the site.
The municipality says that all 270 apartments in five stairwells located near the affected one were inspected. The assessments were completed by September 9, and the monitoring report, which is more than 500 pages long, was reviewed and clarified by September 15. Subsequently, PMB issued the order to resume the work.
The contractor has already begun reorganizing the site, while work on the structure will start with the installation of temporary support columns, known as “popi.” These will be installed in the building’s stairwell, in accordance with the technical design. The work will be carried out under the permanent supervision of the criminal investigation authorities.
The explosion that occurred last year near “Dimitrie Bolintineanu” Theoretical High School left four people dead and 20 injured.
