PMB: Work has begun to secure the building in Rahova affected by the explosion in October 2025

The Bucharest City Hall has announced the start of work to secure the apartment building on Calea Rahovei, which was affected by the explosion that occurred in October 2025. The first support pillars have been installed in the stairwell, and workers entering the building are wearing body cameras. The footage is downloaded every two and a half hours, according to the municipality.

The construction work could begin after the necessary administrative and technical stages were completed. The Bucharest City Hall assessed all 270 apartments in the five stairwells adjacent to the affected one and analyzed a monitoring report of more than 500 pages. Subsequently, the authorities issued the order to resume the work.

The explosion occurred on October 17, 2025, in an apartment building in Sector 5. Three people died, while another 15 were injured. Dozens of homes were affected, and the residents were evacuated. In the criminal case, the first detentions were made at the end of October, following searches of individuals and legal entities.

To support those evacuated, the municipality initially provided accommodation in hotels, then paid the rent for the relocated families. To date, approximately 115,000 euros have been paid for 43 families.
