The President of the Education Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, the social democrat, Alexandru Mihai Ghigiu, announced on Wednesday the submission of a bill to postpone for two years the article in the National Education Law regarding admission to high school.
Ghigiu emphasized that, although this double admission procedure has been known for almost three years, the Ministry of Education has not provided transparency regarding it. He mentioned the "gaps" in the procedure, including issues related to appeals and conflicts of interest, which affect trust in the system. Ghigiu highlighted the inequalities created between parents who can afford tutoring for their children's preparation and those who cannot. He also questioned the positive impact of this measure on education, considering that students would have to take two exams in a short period.
At the same time, he mentioned that Raluca Turcan will propose a four-year postponement, both projects to be analyzed in the Education Committee. Ghigiu emphasized the importance of a quick decision to provide predictability for eighth-grade students.
