The senators decided on Wednesday to resend the project regarding the new high school admission exam back to the Education Committee. This decision was made after the plenary approved a USR amendment, which provides for the complete elimination of the exam, in contrast to the committee's report that proposed postponing its implementation by four years.
The legislative project aims to postpone the deadline in the Pre-university Education Law 198/2023, regarding the new admission and national evaluation system. The committee's initial amendment stipulated that the new rules should apply to the generation of students who started the fifth grade in the 2025-2026 school year. USR senator Ștefan Pălărie proposed the complete repeal of the exam, an amendment adopted by the plenary. PSD senator Daniel Zamfir requested the resending of the project for the correlation of provisions, a request approved by the plenary. The President of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean, announced that the project will be debated again on Tuesday, in the first plenary session of the ordinary session.
