Prosecutors Gigi Ștefan and Teodor Niță from the Constanța Court of Appeal have been suspended from their positions by the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) after being placed under preventive arrest for 30 days, being accused of corruption.
Gigi Ștefan is accused of influence peddling, receiving approximately 60,000 euros to influence the favorable resolution of a criminal case, as well as 110,000 euros to intervene in various legal matters. Teodor Niță is being prosecuted for incitement to abuse in office, being suspected of attempting to influence an ISUJ officer to avoid legal sanctions for a related company. Investigators conducted searches, finding large sums of money in Gigi Ștefan's office.
This situation has generated controversy in the judicial system, calling into question the integrity of the involved prosecutors.
