Bucharest City Hall will begin preparations Monday evening for the Bucharest Christmas Market, organized in Constitution Square across an area of 20,000 square meters. The event will take place from November 27 to December 27, and the work will lead to traffic restrictions in the area.
According to the municipality, 133 stalls, a 30-meter-tall Christmas tree made of LED mesh, a Ferris wheel and a carousel will be installed. Admission to the market will be free, and visitors will find products made by Romanian artisans and producers, decorations, gifts, traditional dishes, sweets and seasonal drinks.
A space of more than 100 square meters will be arranged for children, featuring hand-painted decorations, workshops, storybook characters and meetings with Santa Claus. The artistic program will include Christmas carols, traditional performances, concerts, entertainment acts and DJ sets.
General Mayor Ciprian Ciucu says this year's edition will have facilities similar to those of previous editions, but will cost 5 million lei less and benefit from more sponsorships. According to him, the vendors were selected by a committee without political interference.
The first restrictions will come into effect Monday at 8:00 p.m. on the third lane adjacent to Constitution Square. Between November 24 and December 30, restrictions will be imposed on sections of Libertății Boulevard, while at several times between November 27 and December 27, traffic will be restricted on Unirii Boulevard and Libertății Boulevard. Three temporary crossings will be arranged for pedestrians.
