Petrișor Peiu accuses PSD and the Ministry of Finance of hiding the true scale of the budget deficit

AUR Senate leader Petrișor Peiu accuses the PSD and Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare of failing to present the true scale of the budget deficit. The criticism concerns the way the Niculescu Government communicated the state of public finances.

According to the senator, the Executive announced a deficit of 78 billion lei, but did not also present the figure calculated according to the European ESA standard. This reporting system is used to assess the public deficit across the European Union.

Petrișor Peiu claims that the omission prevents a complete assessment of the budgetary situation and accuses the authorities of hiding the true extent of the deficit. The AUR Senate leader particularly criticizes the PSD, which he says is now resorting to the same practices it denounced when it was in opposition.

The parliamentarian made the statements as the Government and the Ministry of Finance presented data on the budget deficit. Peiu calls on the authorities to also communicate the figure calculated according to the ESA methodology, so that the state of public finances can be analyzed on the basis of complete and comparable data at the European level.
