AUR Senate leader Petrișor Peiu announced Sunday evening on Digi24 that the party would call Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare to Parliament to provide explanations regarding the budget deficit. The statement comes ahead of the session in which Prime Minister Luca Niculescu had been summoned to the “Prime Minister’s Hour” at the request of AUR lawmakers.
According to Peiu, the party expected the prime minister not to attend the debates and is preparing a “plan B.” AUR maintains that the finance minister is directly responsible for presenting the data on the deficit and will seek clarification on the difference between calculations based on the ESA standard and those using the cash, or cash-based, methodology used by the Government.
Peiu also announced that AUR would submit a simple motion against Alexandru Nazare, regardless of whether the minister provides the requested explanations. The AUR Senate leader claims that the differences between the two calculation methods are linked to unpaid debts and state arrears.
The prime minister’s summons had been approved by the Standing Bureau after AUR lawmakers requested public explanations about the budget deficit situation. The finance minister is to be summoned through parliamentary procedure to answer the opposition’s questions.
