AUR filed a simple motion against Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare in the Senate on Wednesday, asking him to provide explanations about the real state of the budget deficit. The document, entitled “The state budget at the hour of truth; the same minister, two sets of accounts, one for Romanians, the other for Brussels,” is signed by 34 senators.
The motion will be debated in plenary on Wednesday, November 11, starting at 10:00 a.m., according to the announcement made by Senate session chair Mihai Coteț.
AUR Senate leader Petrișor Peiu had announced as early as Monday the party’s intention to submit the document. He maintains that the minister must present data on the “real” budget deficit and clarify the allegations concerning the possible cosmetic alteration of financial indicators.
The minister says that official data indicate an improvement in budget execution. According to him, the deficit in the first nine months of 2026 fell from 5.31% to 3.81% of GDP, while the nominal deficit stood at 78.3 billion lei, compared with 102.47 billion lei during the same period of the previous year. Nazare attributed the development to the fiscal consolidation measures adopted by the Government.
