The Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, stated that the ministry has prepared options for reducing the excise duty on diesel, including a gradual reduction based on international quotations and national prices. Nazare emphasized that discussions for the adoption of these measures will continue, with decisions expected in the Government this week, possibly on Thursday or Friday.

He mentioned that there has been intense work over the last 10 days to find viable solutions agreed upon in the coalition. Regarding the voluntary contribution of market operators, this will involve an equal amount from operators, similar to the mechanism from 2020. Nazare explained that they are working on a text targeting exceptional profits in the context of the current crisis, inspired by the regulation from 2022 that addressed speculative profits in the energy sector. Although there is no adopted European framework, the principles from 2022 are being used to target speculative profits.
