The Vice President of PNL, Siegfried Mureșan, stated that the main objective of PSD is not to solve the problems facing Romania, but to regain control over the main levers of power in the state. In a Facebook post, Mureșan emphasized that the social democrats want to return to power to take control of the Executive and public resources.
He compared the current strategy of PSD to the periods when the party was led by Adrian Năstase and Liviu Dragnea. Mureșan mentioned that Sorin Grindeanu's request for extended autonomy within a potential government reflects PSD's intention to consolidate its political influence. He also stated that PNL will not grant PSD total freedom of action in a potential governing coalition. Mureșan concluded that PSD is at a strategic crossroads, having the option to remain a center-left party with reduced support or to adopt a populist discourse, which could favor the rise of AUR.
