Monica Macovei, former Minister of Justice, requested the court to lift the obligation to perform community service for a period of 60 days, in the case with the reference number 7355/254/2025. She was involved in a traffic accident in 2024, in Constanța County, in which a motorcyclist was injured, the incident occurring after Macovei drove into oncoming traffic, according to police evidence. She contests this claim, arguing that the motorcyclist entered her car. Following the accident, the motorcyclist required over 100 days of hospitalization.
Macovei was sentenced in the first instance to six months of suspended prison and various social reintegration measures, including community service. The sentence was suspended for two years, and the Mangalia Court imposed other obligations during the probation period. Macovei is known for her contributions to justice reforms, including the establishment of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA).
