Antonina Radu, one of the firefighters convicted in the Colectiv case, has been incarcerated in a prison in the Republic of Moldova, where she will serve a sentence of 6 years, shorter than the 8 years and 8 months set by the Romanian courts. She fled Romania before the final ruling of the sentence and was placed on international wanted list.
In May 2022, Radu was convicted along with her colleague, George Matei, for allowing the Colectiv club to operate without a fire safety permit, an incident that resulted in 65 deaths and over 200 injuries. The Ministry of Justice of Romania requested the Moldovan authorities to take over the execution of the sentence, considering that Moldova does not extradite its citizens. On May 21, 2026, the Ministry of Justice of Romania received official confirmation of the recognition of the conviction by the Moldovan authorities.
