Deputy Andrei Csillag, initially elected on the POT lists and currently the executive president of the UNIT party, was sentenced on Thursday by the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ÎCCJ) for driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. He received a sentence of eight months in prison with a suspended sentence, under a supervision period of two years. The decision is not final and can be contested within 10 days. As a complementary punishment, Csillag could be deprived of the right to drive for one year from the final ruling and could perform unpaid community service for 60 days.

The case was registered at the ÎCCJ in October 2025, and the former parliamentarian did not acknowledge the facts stated in the indictment. His status as a dignitary determined the exclusive jurisdiction of the ÎCCJ in this case, which was handled by the Criminal Investigation Section of the General Prosecutor's Office.
