The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) reminded Romanians that laminating civil status documents, such as birth and marriage certificates, is not legal in Romania. This practice leads to the nullity of the documents, which thus lose their validity. Citizens who laminate these documents may face difficulties when they wish to use them, for example, for renewing their identity card. The nullity of the documents is determined by civil status officers or authorized officials. In the case where a certificate has been laminated, the solution is to request a duplicate from the community public services for personal records or, if they are abroad, from Romanian consulates. MAI recommends keeping these documents in a protective sleeve instead of laminating them.
