Dozens of miners transferred from Lupeni to the Vulcan Mine remain trapped underground on Wednesday morning, after, the previous day, those on the night shift refused to come back to the surface, dissatisfied with the salary differences compared with their former workplace.

The protest began on Tuesday morning, when the miners on the night shift, who were due to come back to the surface at 6:00 a.m., barricaded themselves underground, and were subsequently joined by miners from the other shifts.

They are asking to speak with someone from the management of the Mining Exploitation and say they will not call off the protest until they receive assurances that their salaries will remain at least at the level they had at the Lupeni Mine.

Approximately 50 employees were transferred from Lupeni to Vulcan amid the process of closing the Lupeni exploitation.
