A 43-year-old man was placed in preventive detention for 30 days after allegedly entering the Alba Iulia Municipal Police headquarters on Saturday evening with a replica submachine gun and an object resembling a grenade. The incident took place on October 24, 2026, at around 8:30 p.m., and his behavior created the appearance of an armed attack.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Alba Iulia District Court, the man allegedly threw into the lobby the object perceived as a smoke grenade, then pointed the gun at the police officer on duty and asked him to shoot him. The officer withdrew to the dispatch room, requested support and prepared his weapon together with a colleague. When other police officers arrived, the man allegedly surrendered and was restrained.
Checks established that the weapon was a metal airsoft replica, an AK-47 model, with plastic projectiles, while the grenade was a “dummy”-type training device. A pocketknife was also found during the body search.
The prosecutor initiated criminal proceedings and requested preventive detention, citing the risk of the situation escalating and of real firearms being used. The man is being investigated for assaulting a police officer and the unauthorized carrying or use of dangerous objects. He challenged the court’s decision.
