A man was placed in pretrial detention for 30 days after allegedly threatening and assaulting a policewoman on September 2, on a street in Bucharest’s Sector 4. The prosecutor from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bucharest Sector 4 District Court initiated criminal proceedings against him for assaulting a police officer.
According to prosecutors, at around 9:17 a.m., the defendant V.A. allegedly told the policewoman, who was carrying out her duties and attempting to restrain him: “I’ll shoot you in the head!” Subsequently, the man allegedly kicked her in the right shin and then in the facial area, at the level of the right cheekbone.
The man was detained on Wednesday for 24 hours. On Thursday, the judge for rights and liberties at the Sector 4 District Court granted the prosecutors’ request and ordered his pretrial detention for 30 days.
The investigation is continuing to establish all the circumstances. The initiation of criminal proceedings and the pretrial detention measure do not negate the presumption of innocence.
