An investigation by the Hungarian portal HVG has revealed the connections between Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC), the educational hub of Viktor Orbán's government, and pro-Russian influence structures. Researcher Zalán Alkonyi has warned about the presence of pro-Russian ideologists in MCC, which also operates in Romania.

Among those involved are Lauren Chen, accused of receiving Russian funds, and John Laughland, detained for espionage. MCC, active in Romania through the Mathias Corvinus Collegium Foundation, promotes sovereignty and criticism of the European Union, aiming to form an intellectual elite loyal to the Fidesz ideology.

Critics see MCC as a long-term influence tool of the Hungarian state in the region, while the Romanian Ministry of Education emphasizes that the organization is not part of the national education system. Real estate acquisitions, such as the Melody Hotel in Cluj-Napoca, strengthen MCC's presence in Romania, and events organized by the foundation integrate Hungarian youth into an ideologically controlled informational ecosystem.
