According to the statements of the Minister of Defense, Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, Hungary reaffirms its position towards Russia, stating that the government will "close the door" to Russian influence. During a debate in Budapest, the minister emphasized the importance of rebuilding trust with allies, affected by the previous government, and mentioned the apologies addressed to Finland for the delay in its NATO accession.
The Hungarian government is focused on allocating 5% of GDP for defense by 2035, but currently prioritizes education and health due to the inherited economic situation. The modernization of defense capabilities continues, with the aim of restoring them, and there are intentions to sign new agreements with European companies in the field.
Prime Minister Péter Magyar also proposes to change the political regime, removing officials appointed during Viktor Orbán's period, in the context of a European investigation into Hungarian espionage. Hungary has also opened new negotiation chapters for Ukraine and Moldova's accession to the EU.
