Lawyer Cătălin Dima has filed a lawsuit at the Bucharest Court of Appeal to annul the government decisions from October 23, which establish the organization of the local elections on December 7. He criticized the Government for accelerating the electoral process after a poll showed that 50% of Romanians do not trust the current political class. He argues that this rush aims to prevent the rise of new parties and candidates.
His lawsuit will be judged by Andreea Cecilia Mihai, who has previously ruled in favor of Ludovic Orban. Dima believes that these decisions deprive him of the right to choose, limiting options to traditional parties. The court has set a first ruling for November 17, postponing the verdict for the next day. Cătălin Dima emphasized the importance of respecting the legal deadlines for organizing elections, established at a maximum of 90 days after a mayoral position becomes vacant.
