Ciprian Ciucu, the mayor of the Capital, could today escape judicial control after contesting the extension of this measure. The court is expected to provide a response in this regard.
The DNA accuses Ciucu of having benefited from the support of two businessmen during the electoral campaign, in exchange for the release of certain permits and urban planning certificates. Upon arriving at the court, Ciucu stated that contesting the judicial control is a symbolic gesture through which he defends his rights and freedoms, emphasizing that he considers himself innocent. He mentioned that, usually, such measures last a long time in Romania, and judicial control limits his ability to fulfill his duties, including traveling to Brussels, where he is a member of the Committee of the Regions.
