The mercenary Horaţiu Potra, accused of actions against the constitutional order, remains in preventive detention after the High Court of Cassation and Justice rejected his appeal against the decision of the Bucharest Court of Appeal on Thursday.
The court upheld the preventive detention measure, finding it legal. Potra was brought back to the country from Dubai in November 2025, being involved in a case with 22 defendants, including the former presidential candidate, Călin Georgescu.
Prosecutors claim that Potra coordinated a paramilitary group that planned violent actions to destabilize Romania, in the context of the annulment of the 2024 presidential elections.
Their actions included recruiting individuals with military training and carrying out violent protests, thus endangering national security. During the searches, authorities discovered weapons and dangerous materials.
