Heineken has announced massive layoffs, estimating that around 6,000 employees will be affected over the next two years, as a result of declining beer sales and difficult market conditions. The company, which owns three factories in Romania, in Craiova, Miercurea Ciuc, and Ungheni, will accelerate productivity to make savings. Although Heineken's shares have risen by about 3% on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange, CEO Dolf van den Brink, who announced his resignation, emphasized that short-term expectations remain cautious.
In 2023, Heineken recorded a 2.4% decline in global beer volumes sold, with a 4.1% decrease in Europe. The company reported revenues of 34.4 billion euros, and net profit increased by 4.9% excluding currency fluctuations. Heineken Romania, with over 1,000 employees, has significantly contributed to the state budget and is an important player in the circular economy of the country.
