Sorin Grindeanu rejects the accusations regarding US involvement in the dismissal of Ilie Bolojan and describes them as “pure fabrications”

PSD President Sorin Grindeanu rejected reports that the United States had been involved in the dismissal of former Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. The reaction comes after a report published by The Wall Street Journal about an alleged statement made by US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle during a dinner held in Athens in March.

Grindeanu stated that the discussions held with the American diplomat concerned exclusively the Vertical Gas Corridor, a strategic energy route through which Romania could become an important transit country. The PSD leader maintained that there had been no negotiations, interventions, or discussions regarding a change of the Bolojan Government and dismissed this information as “pure fabrications.”

According to the American report, Guilfoyle allegedly suggested that the United States might have contributed to the fall of the Bolojan Government and that a similar scenario could occur in Greece. The information was linked to the Romanian government’s position regarding the energy project supported by an American-Greek consortium.

The executive led by Ilie Bolojan allegedly did not accept requests to purchase gas from the United States at a price higher than the market price. The subject generated political reactions, including from George Simion.
