Greenpeace Romania activists occupied the sidewalk in front of the Ministry of Environment on Thursday, as part of a protest to protect the Black Sea. This action comes after the organization has requested for nearly a year an audience with Minister Diana Buzoianu, without success.
The protest coincides with the start of drilling for the Neptun Deep project, which is taking place 160 km offshore, and Greenpeace warns that this could cause ecological disasters, considering that recently 23 dolphins have stranded on the beaches of Constanta.
Alin Tănase, Greenpeace Campaign Coordinator, stated that the inaction of the authorities represents a threat to life in the Black Sea. The organization demands total transparency and strict monitoring of the project, emphasizing that the sustainable solution for Romania's energy security is the transition to renewable energy.
Greenpeace also calls for constant access to relevant information for the public and independent oversight of the environmental impact of the project.
