The Romanian Defense Industry Employers' Association - ROMDEF has requested an urgent review of defense procurement procedures, following the incident in Galați, where a drone crashed, causing a fire and injuring two people. Cătălin Podaru, the president of ROMDEF, emphasized that this incident is not an isolated accident, but a wake-up call for Romania, which needs to strengthen its defense capacity against aerial threats.
The association proposes accelerating the procurement of modern defense systems, such as drones and electronic warfare equipment, and establishing a Permanent Advisory Council to facilitate dialogue between the state and the private defense industry. Currently, the procurement cycle lasts between 2 and 5 years, which is incompatible with the pace of current threats. ROMDEF supports that it is essential for public institutions to be more open to private companies, which have available solutions to quickly respond to defense needs.
