On Friday, the government adopted several decisions dismissing and appointing prefects and deputy prefects in numerous counties and in Bucharest, following the swearing-in of the new cabinet led by Luca Niculescu.

The changes affect 31 prefect positions, including those in Alba, Arad, Bacău, Cluj, Constanța, Iași, Prahova, Timiș, Vaslui and Bucharest. The new prefects include Corneliu Mureșan in Alba, Alexandru Cordoș in Cluj, Decebal Făgădău in Constanța, Nicoleta-Cătălina Bozianu in Prahova and Eduard-Andrei Popica in Vaslui.

The Executive also decided to replace several deputy prefects. Appointments were announced in the counties of Bacău, Covasna, Dâmbovița, Harghita, Hunedoara, Mureș, Prahova, Satu Mare and Vrancea, as well as in Bucharest.

The decisions come after several prefects and deputy prefects backed by the PNL and USR announced their resignations, following the parties’ decision not to join the government. The Luca Niculescu government was sworn in with the votes of the PSD, PNL and UDMR, although the latter two parties said they were not part of the Executive. The government says the appointed individuals meet the requirements set out in the Administrative Code.
