George Simion, the leader of AUR, has made serious accusations against the governmental coalition, including PSD, alongside which AUR submitted the motion of censure, regarding the management of the SAFE Program, claiming that a "financial scam" of proportions is being committed.
In a video message, Simion emphasized that Romanians have borrowed over 10 billion euros for armament, but the money is not invested in the Romanian arms industry, but mainly in companies from Germany and France, such as Rheinmetall.
Simion called for transparency regarding the contracts with this company, stating that all 15 contracts analyzed "smell of corruption".
Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan responded to the accusations, stating that the management scheme of the program was established during Marcel Ciolacu's mandate and that the purchases are based on previously approved plans. Ciolacu contradicted Bolojan's statements, insisting that the decisions were made under his governance. The dispute continues between the political leaders, highlighting the tensions within the governing coalition.
George Simion's message comes after that of Petrișor Peiu, the leader of AUR senators, in which he criticizes how Romania applies the European SAFE program, claiming that the authorities are using loans from the European Union in a way that is disadvantageous to the national economy.
