The Bucharest Gendarmerie issued 50 contravention fines to participants in demonstrations held in the area around the Central Detention Center in Bucharest, where Călin Georgescu is incarcerated. The fines, issued starting on September 29, total 51,800 lei.
According to the report released Saturday, the protests did not comply with the procedure established by Law No. 60/1991 on the organization and conduct of public assemblies. Gendarmes ensured public order, managed pedestrian flows, and kept access routes to the Central Detention Center and the buildings in the area clear.
Law enforcement personnel formed dialogue teams, which are in constant discussion with participants and explain the importance of declaring the demonstration and having an organizer. The measures also take into account the residential nature of the area, in order to guarantee residents' access and the normal flow of traffic.
The Gendarmerie also prepared two referrals to criminal prosecution authorities concerning the unauthorized carrying or use of dangerous objects and assaulting a public official. The activist known as the Dacian Standard-Bearer is under investigation after allegedly striking a gendarme. The authorities also announced that they had notified Child Protection authorities because minors are also taking part in the demonstrations.
