Gabriel Biriș, tax lawyer and former state secretary in the Ministry of Finance in the government led by Dacian Cioloș, stated that a technocratic government is not a viable solution for Romania, except in crisis situations and for the short term.
Biriș emphasized that governance must be politically assumed by parties, which receive their mandate through the vote of citizens. He explained that during the period he was in government, he faced difficulties in promoting fiscal measures, including due to political pressures. His departure from the government was linked to the reform of personal income taxation, which was abandoned under pressure from the PSD. Biriș criticized the idea of a technocratic government, stating that politicians must take responsibility for governance to respect the will of the voters. He concluded that a technocratic government has no place in power in Romania.
