On Monday afternoon, an incident in Turnu Măgurele led to the evacuation of approximately 30 people from an apartment building, after a worker operating a backhoe damaged a main natural gas pipeline.
The damage occurred around 5:00 PM, near School No. 4, where there were no students, as classes were only held in the morning. Authorities in Teleorman County confirmed that there are no more gas leaks, and the first response teams took measures to protect the citizens. Road traffic was halted in the area, and police crews redirected traffic.
Firefighters, ambulances, and teams from the gas distributor intervened at the scene. Currently, the flow in the gas main has been stopped, and measurements taken show that there is no longer a danger to the population.
The evacuated residents have safely returned to their homes, and the gas company teams continue the repair work on the damage.
