Romanians can fly directly to Beijing again, starting today, September 4, after a break of more than two decades. The route is intended both for tourists and for people traveling to China for business purposes and offers a journey time of approximately 10 hours.

The resumption of direct flights reduces travel time by more than two hours compared with the connecting routes currently used. According to the information available on the company’s website, the price of a ticket ranges between 700 and 800 euros per person. Travel agencies estimate that, at present, a trip to China costs around 1,000 euros, meaning that the new connection can bring savings of up to 300 euros.

China has become an increasingly sought-after destination for Romanians. In the first seven months of 2025, more than 36,000 people traveled from Romania to China, nearly 80% more than during the same period of the previous year.

The direct air link also has a historical component. The first direct flight between Romania and China was operated by Tarom in 1974, but the route was discontinued in 2003. Its reintroduction responds to the growing interest in travel to Beijing and in trade between the two countries.
