The direct Bucharest–Beijing route, operated by Air China, was inaugurated on Friday and will have three weekly flights, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The connection eliminates stopovers and reduces travel time between Romania and China.

MP Cosmin Corendea, chairman of the parliamentary friendship group with the People’s Republic of China, said the launch of the route is part of a broader process of intensifying bilateral cooperation that began at least two years ago. He mentioned areas such as agriculture, transport and energy.

Corendea said TAROM could take on passengers arriving from Beijing and connect them with destinations across Europe, turning Bucharest into a gateway for travelers and goods from China. In transport, the inclusion of the Port of Constanța in a route associated with the Silk Road is also being considered.

The MP also highlighted the tourism potential of the new route, but warned that visa procedures for Chinese citizens need to be improved. The route is available to travelers starting September 4.
